FROM EARS to BRIMS: AUDIOLOGIST to HATTER
Steps away from the South Carolina State House, Demarcus Fitzgerald Bush recalled his mother shopping for school clothes for himself as well as his brother at department stores that lined Main Street. Growing up in the 80’s era of Hip-Hop, he was first introduced to style by two gentlemen, Marion (Pop) Shell and Robert (Dre) Shell. His style was influenced by French, Girbauds and American, Levi Strauss, Italian, Giorgio Brutini Le Glove, German, shell-toe and Stan Smith Adidas and British, Kangol hats, while listening to the tunes of RUN-DMC and LL Cool J. As a young lad, some would say he was a renaissance child focusing his energies in the arts as a: poet, singer, trumpeter, actor, photographer, and designer.
As a high school student, Dr. Bush participated in the medical explorer’s club which led to his passion to improve the quality of life of others. Because of his thirst for learning in the sciences and perseverance, he earned degrees from Winthrop University (Bachelor’s), Howard University (Master’s) and the University of Louisville (Doctorate in Audiology). Today as a national board- certified audiologist, Dr. Demarcus Bush has the privilege of living out his dream of helping others in healthcare!
THE ART + SCIENCE
Be it one’s perception of hearing a single tone during a hearing evaluation or capturing the circumference of the human head for a custom hat; to understanding the auditory neural pathways in which sound travels; to using pressurized steam to mold its crown and ensuring the Brim is at least a half inch above the Ears. Those early visions of becoming a fashion designer and a hearing doctor have finally collided, applying both the art and science in his profession and his craft. Therefore, we gladly introduce to you the Fitz & Gerald (Hat) Company. Fitz & Gerald is dedicated to giving you the very best, handmade product manufactured in COLUMBIA, USA by a scientist and artist!
